Photos of Hancock County, GA, which is ranked by the New York Times among the fifty hardest places to live in America.
At nine o’clock on a Friday morning, a chorus of friendly car horns sound up and down the main street. Everybody knows somebody, and taps their horn to say hello– almost like a flock of birds, chirping as the day begins. The heart of Hancock County has almost no open businesses, and the empty storefronts are minutes away from becoming ruins. In spite of this, a sense of determination shines through. The old church is in the process of being restored, and work can be seen on other buildings as well.
